Exhibition 'Secrets - The Lure of Lingerie' at the St.Gallen Textile Museum

Underwear accentuates femininity and has always made a clear statement about the codex of morals, intimacy and aesthetics of our society. Secrets reflects a part of the history of customs and culture, and, documents the historic specifics, the contemporary modernity and social significance of underwear.

As the guest curator, the Paris underwear designer Chantal Thomass is lending her signature to the exhibition, and is revealing the liberation of the female body and the changing shape of the silhouette on the basis of the history of underwear over a century. Chantal Thomass has played an instrumental role in the development of lingerie over the past few decades; she brought underwear to the catwalk early on, and always attempted to design creations which were adapted to trends in prêt-à-porter fashion. Since the start of her designer career at the end of the Sixties, Chantal Thomass has closely collaborated with embroidery producers from the region. A reciprocal, successful inspiration, as she says. Together with the exhibition scenographer from Antwerp, Bob Verhelst, Chantal Thomass has created an impressive, instructive and sensual museum experience for all visitors, both male and female in St. Gallen.
