The "Blythe" doll

The Blythe Doll
Created in 1972, the "Blythe" doll has long since become only a collector's item (children find their eyes too scary). Then in 1997, Gina Garan the photographer exposed them to a much larger public by suggesting to Junko Wong (CWC) to design the first "neo-blythes" and then Takara produced them. In 2000, Garan published her first doll-photography book.
"This is Blythe" (Chronicle Books) was followed by "Blythe Style" and soon "Blythe Moment" (photos of Blythe being exhibited).

50 designers dressed the dolls however they wanted: Christian Lacroix, Cacharel, Antik Batik, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Paul & Joe, Jean Paul Knott, Dice Kayek, Lutz, By Malene Birger, Fred Sathal, Paule Ka, Ann Huybens, Cathy Pill, Anne Willi, Burfitt, Corinne Cobson, Michel Klein, Katherine Pradeau, Véronique Leroy, and Chantal Thomass undressed the doll...

Exhibit at the Galeries Lafayette, Paris, in the "Gallery of Galleries" and also in the windows, October 6th.

For PRET A PORTER PARIS®, 1st International Fashion meeting.
